How YOTO Serves

Youth On Their Own provides local homeless students with financial assistance, basic human needs and guidance.  To begin the application process, the student must contact the YOTO Liaison at their school.

Financial Assistance

Stipend Program: A monthly student stipend of up to $125 provides a safety net in managing daily needs.  To be eligible to receive stipend support, student must have passing grades in all classes and meet school attendance requirements.

Basic Human Needs

  • Special Needs Funds: Emergency funds are available to assist with living essentials (i.e., rent and utilities).
  • Basic Needs Bank: Students may visit the YOTO “Mini-Mall” for basic needs items such as food, clothing, hygiene items, and household and school supplies.  Donations that stock the “Mini-Mall” are provided by the generosity of community members, organizations and businesses.
  • Bus Passes: Monthly bus passes provide students transportation to school, work and healthcare appointments.

Guidance

YOTO assists students in finding alternative or additional social services and healthcare options to ensure that each receives the support required to graduate from high school.  The organization has created new and strengthened existing collaborations with local community agencies, organizations, and businesses to provide a wide-range of services including, but not limited to:

  • housing referral
  • personal counseling
  • one-on-one success coaching
  • medical, dental and vision care
  • a refurbished computer
  • employment opportunities and community involvement activities
