Youth On Their Own is excited to welcome three new members to our Board of Directors.
These outstanding leaders will serve for a minimum of three years to provide governance, financial oversight, and strategic vision for YOTO. Please help us welcome the newest members of YOTO’s governing body:
Joel Brown is a longtime Tucson resident and has an extensive professional background with the City of Tucson, Tucson Urban League, Sonoran Behavioral Health, and Pima County. In 2023, Joel received YOTO’s School Liaison of the Year Award. “I’m so excited to serve on the YOTO board and do even more to support the youth in our community!”
Justin Frago is a secondary grades Special Education Teacher on the Tohono O’odham Nation and is married to a fellow educator in Tucson. Justin serves as the YOTO Liaison for his school. “I am honored to be joining the YOTO Board because I believe deeply in our mission to help high school students experiencing homelessness graduate high school.”
Monica Kern is an honorary Tucson native, having graduated from Canyon Del Oro High School and the University of Arizona. Monica is a certified public accountant (CPA) and active volunteer with many Tucson organizations. “I am proud and grateful for the honor to serve on YOTOs board, to contribute to a phenomenal organization that supports and empowers youth to overcome challenges and achieve their full potential.”
YOTO’s board members are the fiduciaries who steer the organization towards a sustainable future. They adopt sound, ethical, and legal governance and financial management policies, and they ensure that YOTO has adequate resources to advance its mission. Equally important, board members also serve as representatives and advocates for YOTO in the community.
