Qualified Charitable Distributions (QCDs) from your IRA

A Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD), or “IRA Charitable Rollover Gift,” is a distribution of funds directly from your IRA to a qualified nonprofit (like YOTO!). If you are over the age of 70 and have an IRA, a QCD might be one of the most tax-efficient ways for you to give!

How does a QCD work? How do I make a QCD?

A QCD gift does not function like a tax deduction. It’s even better! By making a QCD, you can lower your taxable income… by up to $100,000 per year! To make a QCD, you must contact the financial institution acting as your IRA custodian. They will have a request form or other process through which you can make your gift. When your QCD has been approved by your IRA custodian, they will send a check or make a transfer directly to YOTO.

What information does YOTO receive about my gift?

It depends! Each IRA custodian has its own process. Because we don’t always have the complete picture, we recommend that you let us know about your gift ahead of time so that we can keep an eye out for it and make sure to acknowledge you accordingly!
