Calling all runners/walkers! You’re invited to A DAY FOR YOTO – a 24-hour run/walk to raise funds to help homeless youth graduate from high school and continue on paths to success! Jerry Schuster, a substitute teacher for the Tucson Unified School District, organized the event. Schuster said, “Since Tucson High is TUSD’s largest school district…quite a few students there have no home or no stable home.” As a substitute teacher, Schuster interacts with many such students, and has witnessed their struggles firsthand.
Youth On Their Own, notes Schuster, provides essential resources and services to youth “as they bear the enormous burden of obtaining their education while living under exceedingly difficult circumstances.” It is his goal to raise both awareness and funds with this event.
Interested in learning more about Jerry Schuster? He recently sat down with Max Darrow at KGUN 9 On Your Side Channel 9 to talk about what motivates him every day to help the youth in his community.
