In February, Youth on Their Own Representative Elysa went to an event with the Soroptimist Desert Tucson Club to spread awareness about the YOTO mission. Soroptimist Desert Tucson is a service club of women volunteers whose mission is to improve the lives of women and girls through programs that can help lead them to social and economic empowerment. The club is part of Soroptomist International, a global non-profit organization of about 75,000 women volunteers who have reached out to more than 120 countries around the world.

After hearing Elysa speak about the mission of YOTO, Soroptimist Desert Tucson was very enthusiastic about volunteering with us! In fact, this past April, members of the Soroptomist group came to YOTO to assist with Bagging Baggies, collecting and distributing personal hygiene items for female YOTO students.

The role of the YOTO Representative, like Elysa, is critical to YOTO.  Their ability to communicate our mission and the needs of our students assists in numerous ways, not the least of which are fundraising and attracting volunteers.  Therefore we would like take a moment to recognize all our YOTO Representatives, whose words and enthusiasm help support YOTO in such a critical way.
